Pakistan’s top priority ‘peaceful, stable Afghanistan’ Bilawal Bhutto tells US Special Envoy

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that a peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan is Pakistan’s priority. According to details, Bilawal Bhutto met US Special Envoy for Afghanistan Thomas West in New York.
In meeting, he stressed importance of continuing international relations with interim Afghan government for lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan. He highlighted Pakistan’s facilitative efforts in building regional consensus on developments in Afghanistan, including expanded troika mechanism.
He cited humanitarian prospects in Afghanistan that United Nations and international agencies have warned will worsen in coming winter. He said that such a scenario could result in massive displacement of refugees.
Thomas West appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to facilitate peace and stability in Afghanistan and evacuation. In addition both recognised need for continued cooperation for common goals of international community’s continued efforts and involvement to alleviate suffering of Afghan people and promote regional peace and stability. Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari who is on his US tour to attend United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session met Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai here.
Taking to Twitter, Bilawal Bhutto said, “Met @Malala at UN General Assembly. Exchanged views on women rights and girls education. Discussed #PakistanFloods and challenges posed by this climate catastrophe to education for millions of young children affected, with thousands of schools destroyed and difficult days ahead. On his visit, FM Bilawal met Norwegian counterpart Anniken Huitfeldt in New York agreed to continue joint efforts to further strengthen and diversify cooperation particularly in trade.
