Pakistan’s Shahzaib Khan grabs Gold in 3rd Mount Everest Open Taekwondo International Championship

Pokhara: Nepal: Pakistan’s talented young athlete Shahzaib Khan has won Gold Medal by beating India’s Amn Kumar in a tough contest of 54-kg Khyurogi event of the ongoing 3rd Mount Everest Open Taekwondo International Championship being played in Pokhara, Nepal.

In the first round, Shahzaib easily overcame his opponent Amn Kumar 7-4 points but in the second round, Amn Kumar striked back and gave Shahzaib a tough time, ultimately winning this round by 12-11.

However, in the third round Shahzaib made good of Amn Kumar after a sensational and nerve-wrecking 7-6 tough play and claimed precious Gold Medal for his country in style.  Earlier, in the semifinal match, Shahzaib had beaten India’s Kushal Malhotra 5-4 and 11-2. In the female category, Pakistan’s Naqsh Hamdani won bronze medal. She was defeated by Indian counterpart in the semi-final contest. Meanwhile in the -80kg contest, Pakistan’s Mazhar Abbas  turned triumphant in his first fight against India’s Kanifnath Pokale  beating the latter comprehensively  by 12-1. While in Round-2  Mazhar won 7-4.

On the other hand, in -58kg Male category first round play, Pakistan[s Haroon Khan  won his first fight against Yaiphaba Meetei Loktong by beating his Indian counterpart comprehensively by 5-0 in one-sided  contest. Again in Round 2, Mazhar made good of  Yaiphaba Meetei Lokotong 8-1.
