Pakistan Railways earns over Rs70bn till May 2024

 ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways has achieved an unprecedented earning of over Rs 70 billion till month of May (FY 2023-24) despite facing financial crisis due to floods in monsoon season.

“Department is expecting to generate revenues up to Rs 80 billion by end of this financial year through consistent efforts and hard work of Railway workers,” sources in Ministry told state broadcaster. Department has witnessed historic increase in revenue in current financial year as during last financial year (2022-23), it earned around Rs 40 billion. Sources said that out of Rs 70 billion, revenue was derived from passenger and freight trains while other sectors of department also contributed to total revenue. At present, they said that Pakistan Railways is operating around 96 passenger trains, more than previous year when 86 trains were running. Similarly, during previous year, on average it operated 3.75 freight trains while number reached seven freight trains this year. 

To question, they said that Pakistan Railways has beefed up precautionary measures to reduce passenger train accidents and only six minor accidents with no causality took place on entire railway network in country during last three months.
