Islamabad: Foreign Office said that Pakistan remained in active contact with Afghan authorities on matter of terrorist attack on Pakistan’s Head of Mission in Kabul and expressed confidence that it would be fully investigated and perpetrators and their abettors would be brought to account.

Responding to media queries regarding remarks reportedly made by Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mumtaz Zahra Baloch in a press release said that it was an ongoing investigation and they were closely following it. “Pakistan remains resolute in our commitment to fight scourge of terrorism,” she further added.

Taliban spokesman, on his Twitter handle, claimed that Taliban authorities had arrested “foreign operative” of Islamic State terrorist group for allegedly carrying out last week’s assassination attempt on Pakistan’s top diplomat in Kabul.

Mujahid said that foreign groups are behind attack, with aim of creating mistrust between two brotherly countries of Afghanistan and Pakistan and added that further investigation was ongoing. A Kabul police spokesman said one suspect had been arrested and two light weapons were seized after security forces swept nearby building “and prevented the continuation of gunfire”. Sepoy Israr had been evacuated to Pakistan, Foreign Office said.
