Pakistan, Canada discuss ways to promote cooperation in trade, investment

ISLAMABAD: High Commissioner of Canada Leslie Scanlon and Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Ishaq Dar here exchanged views on enhancing bilateral relations in various avenues and cooperation in number of fields including trade, investment and climate resilience.
During call on meeting of High Commissioner with Finance Minister, both sides discussed overall global economic situation as well as economic policies and programmes of government.
According to press statement issued by Finance Ministry, Ishaq Dar said both countries were having friendly relations and commended support of Canadian government for flood affected people.
He briefed envoy about economic outlook and challenges being faced by country, coupled with huge losses due to devastating floods last year.
He shared that government with its pragmatic policy decisions had not only arrested economic decline but was also steering economy towards stability and growth.
He shared that government had taken difficult decisions in key sectors, including energy sector in order to reduce budgetary and current account deficits and increased revenue generation.
Dar informed about talks held with International Monetary Fund Mission and reiterated commitment of government to complete existing programme with Fund and fulfill all international obligations.
He appreciated Canadian investments in Pakistan and extended full support and cooperation of government to enhance economic relations between both countries. Leslie Scanlon also shared sentiments of deep rooted friendly relations between two countries.
