Pakistan- Bhutan discuss ways to advance bilateral cooperation in various areas

ISLAMABAD: On the invitation of the Royal Government of Bhutan, Ambassador Imran Ahmed Siddiqui, visited Bhutan to present his credentials to King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan on October 7, 2022.

The credentials ceremony was followed by an audience with the King, during which Ambassador Siddiqui conveyed Pakistan leadership’s greetings, which King Jigme reciprocated with his own for the leadership of Pakistan, says a press release received here on Thursday from Dhaka.

During the visit, Ambassador Siddiqui also called on Prime Minister of Bhutan, Dr Lotay Tshering; Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr Tandi Dorji; Mr Ugyen Dorji, Minister for Home and Cultural Affairs; Mr Loknath Sharma, Minister for Economic Affairs; Mr Yeshey Penjor, Minister for Agriculture and Forests and Foreign Secretary, Ambassador Pema Choden and discussed matters of mutual interest. Ambassador Siddiqui also met the representatives of the Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) and the “Tashi Group” of Companies which is among the leading business ventures in Bhutan.

Pakistan and Bhutan enjoy friendly relations which are based on historical contacts and cultural linkages. During the meetings, both sides discussed ways to advance bilateral cooperation, including in the areas of trade and business as well as promotion of tourism. They also discussed ways to address the challenges posed by climate change and environmental degradation through joint efforts.
