Pak-US relationship everlasting, PM says to rebuild ties ahead

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended diplomatic reception held at US Embassy here to commemorate 75 years of relations between Pakistan and United States.
Reception started with a one-minute silence to express condolence over death of people and convey grief to those who had lost their livelihood in devastating floods. Federal ministers and US Ambassador in Pakistan Donald Blome attended reception.In his address, US Ambassador said that people of United States continued to stand with Pakistan. Strength of bilateral friendship is demonstrated by more than $ 66 million in US support for flood response.
“We are doing what friends and partners do support each other when it’s needed most. Our partnership has been advantageous to both countries,” he remarked according to a US embassy press release.
Over decades, more than $ 32 billion dollars in US support benefited Pakistan and improved lives of Pakistani people, Ambassador added.
Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated desire to rebuild Pak-US friendship that was based on trust, respect and mutual understanding. He said our relations with United States should not be seen through prism of our relations with Afghanistan and China. He said it is matter of great honour to recall that United States was one of very first countries which offered full recognition to Pakistan.
He said catastrophic situation is not made by us which destroyed over four million acres of our cultivable land. Sixteen hundred people including children and women have died in it. More than a million livestock have been killed.
