Ayodhya: Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) conveyed its serious concerns regarding recent construction and inauguration of “Ram Temple” at site of previously demolished Babri Masjid in India’s Ayodhya.
Expressing its stance, OIC’s General Secretariat expressed deep worry over actions taken to establish ‘Ram Temple’ and condemned obliteration of Islamic landmark represented by historic Babri Masjid.
Masjid had stood at site for five centuries and held significant cultural and religious value, it added.
This, statement continued, aligns with OIC’s consistent position, as expressed by Council of Foreign Ministers in previous sessions. OIC denounces actions that undermine Islamic landmarks and emphasises importance of preserving cultural and religious heritage, it asserted.
“United Nations and other relevant international organisations should play their part in saving Islamic heritage sites in India from extremist groups and ensuring protection of religious and cultural rights of minorities in India,” Foreign Office Spokesperson said in press statement.
