OIAPJ announces new leadership, condemns PECA Ordinance

KARACHI: The Overseas International Association of Pakistani Journalists (OIAPJ) has completed its annual election process, announcing its new leadership for the term 2025/26.
The association, representing Pakistani journalists worldwide, has also condemned the PECA Ordinance, terming it a “black law” against press freedom in Pakistan. The newly elected leadership includes: Chairman: Khurram Shahzad (USA), President: Shahid Chaudhry (South Africa), Senior Vice President: Waseem Chaudhry (UK), Vice Chairperson: Saadia Abbasi (UAE) and Vice Chairman: Sagheer Ramay (Turkey).
Other key positions include: Chairman Advisory Board: Irfan Siddiqui (Japan), Chief Organizer: Waseem Butt (Ireland), Secretary General: Mahosh Khan (Germany), Chairperson Literary Committee: Humeira Gul Tashnah (USA), Deputy General Secretary: Resham Beg (Ireland), Finance Secretary: Irfan Ahmed Faraz (UK), Senior Joint Secretary: Mutiullah (Germany) Joint Secretaries: Maryam Shahid (Saudi Arabia), Javed Azimi (Holland), Khalid Khan (Japan), and Rehwan Khan (Germany), Secretary Information: Rizwan Khan (Germany) and Deputy Information Secretary: Azim Dar (Belgium). The OIAPJ leadership has vowed to continue promoting press freedom, unity, and professionalism among Pakistani journalists worldwide. Chairman Khurram Shahzad and President Shahid Chaudhry congratulated the new team, reaffirming their commitment to protecting journalists’ rights and promoting a positive image of Pakistan. In a resolution presented by senior journalist Matiullah from Germany, the OIAPJ condemned the PECA Ordinance, urging the government to repeal it immediately. The association expressed solidarity with Pakistani journalists, emphasizing the importance of press freedom in a democratic society.
