ISLAMABAD: Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) will hear SSGC plea for hike in consumer tariff for Sindh and Balochistan. Sui Southern Gas Company requested to regulator for 96.36 percent hike in gas tariff. Gas utility has asked for an increase in gas tariff by 667.44 rupees per MMBTU.

Gas company requested to OGRA to fix gas tariff at 1,360 rupees per MMBTU. Presently gas tariff of Sui Southern has been fixed at 692.63 rupees per MMBTU. SSGC applied to OGRA to meet its revenue requirements for current fiscal year. OGRA after its decision will forward it to federal government for approval. Government would have final say in deciding about hike in gas tariff for two provinces. International Monetary Fund demanded in September to increase gas tariff in country ahead of winter.

Sources said that government asked lender to give some time to make necessary amends and raise tariff to curtail circular debt of country. An estimate said that gas tariff could be increased from 45 percent to 53 percent. However, government has ensured money lender that small consumers would be facilitated and not overcharged.
