Ogra approves 50pc increase in tariff for SNGPL, 42pc for SSGC

ISLAMABAD: inflation-hit households will now have to adjust their monthly budget for accommodate more expenses, as Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) hiked tariff for Sui Northern Gas by 50 percent and Sui Southern Gas by 42 percent on average.

It means Sui Northern gas consumer is going to pay an additional amount of Rs 415.55 per MMBtu (Metric Million British Thermal Unit) while increase in case of Sui Southern stands at Rs 417 MMBtu.

Move follows Cabinet last week approved massive hike in electricity base tariff-Rs 3.50 to Rs 7.96 per unit through circulation as Pakistan is moving ahead to meet harsh IMF conditions under $ 3 billion deal reached stand-by arrangement.

Earlier, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority had recommended at Rs 4.96 increase in power base price and sent summary to Ministry of Energy for necessary action-move that will place an additional burden of Rs 3,495 on consumers.

On Monday, regulatory authority approved gas price hike and sent matter to government for issuing notification as IMF has made it clear that Pakistan would have to bridge gap between cost and revenue while stopping practice of subsidising consumers.
