NYPD offers to train Sindh police for combatting street crimes

KARACHI: New York Police Department (NYPD) has offered Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to train provincial local police officers in dealing with street crime, intelligence work and vigilance.
Offered was given during meeting between Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah and 22-member delegation from Pakistani American Law Enforcement Society (PALES) of New York Police Department
22-member delegation of PALES was led by Rohail Khalid. In delegation officers of different police assignments such as Integrity Control officer, Traffic Enforcement, Intelligence, Training Bureau, Identification Bureau, Patrol and others.
NYPD offered to train Sindh police for combatting street crimes. Chief Minister appreciated offer and directed Inspector General of Police to examine proposal and submit plan for sending police officers to New York for training.
Sindh Home Secretary Iqbal Memon, IG Police Ghulam Nabi Memon, Secretary to CM Raheem Shaikh and others attended meeting. Murad welcomed New York Police Department delegation and discussed issue of terrorism in Karachi, which he attributed to Afghan war and regional politics. He acknowledged sacrifices made by police and law enforcement agencies, with support of his government, to eliminate terrorism in area.
CM highlighted challenge of street crime in city, against which police and Rangers have initiated operations. He mentioned that government was working on amending laws to utilise technology in dealing with repeat criminals.
Delegation members emphasised that only small group of 10 percent of population was responsible for committing crimes against 90 percent. They suggested that if criminals were aware of being watched, they would avoid committing crimes. Delegation members also agreed with CM on importance of using technology to control crime.
