ISLAMABAD: National Security Committee (NSC) presided over by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will be held again today to take decisive actions against terrorists.
NSC will meet today afternoon at Prime Minister’s House and it is anticipated that significant decisions will be made regarding proposals that were discussed in meeting on Friday. Officials from military and civil officials will attend meeting.
Sources privy to matter said that NSC meeting will accept clear directive on country’s economy and security, as well as endorse forceful actions against terrorists. Meeting will also present a new operation plan for elimination of terrorists. The NSC is expected to approve measures to counter the renewed threat posed by the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). According to sources, consensus had emerged between the civil and military leadership that Pakistan would no longer seek direct talks with the banned TTP.
The decision was taken during the NSC meeting held on Friday. There had been realisation in the meeting that the policy to hold direct talks with the TTP was wrong and failed to produce the desired results. As a result of which now all stakeholders decided that no direct talks would take place with the TTP.
The concerns of Pakistan would be conveyed to the Afghan Taliban on the issue instead of holding direct talks with the TTP.
