No regret on dissolving assemblies: Imran Khan

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has asserted that he has no regret in dissolving Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa assemblies, terming move party’s ‘constitutional right’.
Speaking to private news channel, he reiterated that Constitution stipulates that elections are held within 90 days of dissolution of an assembly. Imran Khan also lambasted ruling coalition for not ‘implementing Supreme Court’s (SC) orders’, warning of country-wide protests. “We stand by Supreme Court for implementation of Constitution,” he added. He said that citizens have lost hope in country and are leaving for abroad. “Government is paying huge price just to keep me out of government,” he added. He also criticised Qamar Javed Bajwa, saying that former chief of Army Chief was controlling National Accountability Bureau during his tenure. He added that country cannot function without supremacy of rule of law. Khan also said that overseas Pakistanis were not investing in country due to ‘corruption’. PTI Chief added that foreign investment cannot increase until there is stability in country. He also alleged that PTI’s seats were reduced in 2018 election.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan informed Lahore High Court (LHC) that “Third assassination attempt” has been hatched against him. Imran Khan appeared before high court’s larger bench headed by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi. Court directed Imran to join investigation in cases registered against him after deliberating with concerned quarters to decide whether he would appear before investigation team or if team would visit his Zaman Park residence.
Meanwhile, bench also sought detailed progress report by May 8 of ongoing investigation to determine which FIRs required Imran’s arrest, which were quashed and in which cases was he granted bail.
During proceedings, PTI Chief took to rostrum and informed court that he had earlier revealed that there will be an assassination attempt on him and everyone saw what happened in Wazirabad. He claimed that second attack was to be carried out against him in Islamabad judicial complex, but luckily he remained safe. He brought to notice of court that fresh assassination plan has been hatched against him. Imran claimed that he wanted to appear before courts, but he was not being allowed to appear in same manner as he did at Islamabad Judicial Complex. He alleged that top intelligence officer was “Behind whole game”.
Justice Najafi remarked that court will look at matter of Imran’s security whenever plea pertaining to it is filed.
