ISLAMABAD: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja said that no government in Punjab was willing to hold Local Body (LB) elections.
A three-member bench headed by CEC heard a petition concerning local government elections in Punjab where special secretary of Election Commission of Pakistan said that constituencies have already been delimited twice in province and now they have to be delimited a third time. “A copy of rolls is required,” he added. During hearing, Chief Secretary Punjab Abdullah Khan Sumbal revealed that demarcation “will be completed soon” and that a separate constituency will be formed for every population of 25,000.
“Punjab government should provide us with required documents,” said CEC adding, “Demarcating for third time is no laughing matter”. “If ECP can conduct LB elections as per previous rules then schedule will be issued today in Punjab,” he furthered.
