No compromise on standard of free flour acceptable: PM

Lahore: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said no compromise on standard of free flour is acceptable. 

“Free flour will be distributed to 15.8 million families of Punjab in Ramadhan-ul-Mubarak. Free flour will be distributed from 25th Shaban to 25th Ramadhan. Distribution of flour will be made through 8,500 utility stores” he said.

Chairing review meeting here for provision of free flour under Ramadhan Package he said that for first time in history of country package for provision of free flour to people during Ramadhan has been worked out.

He directed that more 20,000 units be set up for distribution of flour among people for their facilitation. Distribution of free flour in transparent manner be ensured. Modern technology be used to prevent theft during distribution of flour. Punjab government gave detailed briefing on programme of distribution of free flour in meeting.

Meanwhile, to facilitate cotton farmers Shehbaz Sharif approved Rs 8,500 per 40 kilogram as support price of commodity. He directed to present matter to Economic Coordination Committee on priority.

Chairing meeting of Agriculture Task Force, he urged provinces to ensure implementation of cotton price. He termed cotton as backbone of country’s textile sector and expressed confidence that step would support farmers.

He mentioned that steps were being taken to boost per acre produce of cotton and directed Ministry of National Food Security to finalise requisite proposals.

Meeting was informed that last year, cotton produce faced exponential reduction due to floods, heavy rains and shortage of canal irrigation water and crisis of fertilizer.

This year, overall cotton production has been estimated at 12.77 million bales, which is expected to witness significant growth as result of policies of government.

Ministers Ishaq Dar, Syed Naveed Qamar, Tariq Bashir Cheema, Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Raza Naqvi and Adviser to PM Ahad Cheema attended.
