Though a number of agriculture-friendly steps have been initiated by the current coalition government, but the real thing is to implement those plans as such initiatives were also taken during the previous governments but the plans failed due to lack of implementation on those projects.

Pakistan is economically recognized as an agricultural country in the outside world. There was a time when wheat, rice, other food grains and their products were exported from here to other countries, as a result of which these commodities were our valuable foreign exchange, but what can be said about it except the negligence of the successive governments (both civilians and military), we are forced to import by spending and suffer from food shortage.

In order to consider the measures to control this situation, a national seminar on the issue of food security was held in Islamabad on Monday. Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir was present along with Pakistani representatives. The Army Chief expressed the firm commitment of the army to make Pakistan green and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif added to the significance of his announcement by saying that Green Pakistan, which can rightly be called the Agricultural Revolution.

General Asim Munir said in his speech that we have all kinds of capabilities. Pakistan has to develop which no power in the world can stop. Pakistan Army will fulfill the aspirations of the nation with full zeal in implementing all government initiatives like Green Pakistan under the Special Investment Facilitation Council.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that the Green Initiative will be the second major green revolution for the country after 1960, which will open new avenues of development for Pakistan, under which foreign investment of 150 billion dollars is expected in the next five years, 40 lakh people will get employment.

In a couple of years, our agricultural economy will be restored. After which we will not have to go out and ask for loans.

Gulf countries are ready to invest under this program. He emphasized on political stability for economic security, without which no foreign country would be willing to invest.

In the seminar, experts from agriculture, textile, leather and livestock sectors paid special attention to the agricultural development and appreciated the government and Pakistan Army and emphasized on public private partnership in this regard and bringing economic benefits to small farmers.

It was also said that the Green Pakistan program will help increase the export of agricultural products and decrease the imports, which will stabilize the country's economy, apart from food security. In this regard, several multilateral measures are being implemented. On the instructions of the Prime Minister, representatives of the flour mills industry will meet with the caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab next Friday, in which this year's surplus production of wheat products and measures exports it in the Gulf states of Afghanistan and Sudan will be considered. Under the Green Pakistan programme, lakhs of acres of neglected or barren land will be brought under cultivation, which will not only meet the food requirement of the country but will also enable the export of surplus wheat.

In this way, Pakistan will again become a wheat exporting country, but for this the farmers will have to be given facilities. The involvement of Pakistan Army in this campaign can prove to be the source of its success.

Now it is up to the political parties to make positive policies to create stability in the country because without political stability economic stability will not be possible.

Earlier, the GOVERNMENT had announced the establishment of Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) under the economic recovery program in a high-level meeting last month with the aim of promoting agriculture, livestock, mineral mining, IT and energy among other sectors.

It is to harness the  potential of the country in the form of investment and create millions of employment opportunities. Fortunately, Pakistan currently has such opportunities for foreign investment, thanks to which the desired goals of SIFC can be achieved.

It is hoped that this project will avoid unnecessary political interference and help in meeting the challenges faced while easily achieving the desired goals and pave the way for the future.

The implementation of the program was started recently by Prime Minister along with the Army Chief by inaugurating the Land Information Management System related to the agricultural sector established in Rawalpindi, under which 4.4 million acres of barren land will be cleared with an external investment of three billion dollars.

The land will be brought under cultivation, in which Saudi Arabia will immediately invest 500 million dollars. Through the use of modern technology under the project, self-sufficiency in agricultural production will be achieved again. According to statistics, 28 percent of the country's total area of 8.6 million acres is suitable for agriculture, while 2.8 million acres of land is barren due to poor planning and lack of water. According to agricultural experts, by constructing small and medium-sized dams, 200 million acres of this area can be brought under cultivation, thanks to which it is not difficult to estimate that the serious problem of food security will be dealt with in the coming years. Subject to being free from defects.

In a nutshell, the Govt and Pakistan Army are working together to promote modern agriculture to overcome the food requirements of growing population, and the establishment of LIMS is a great initiative to ensure food security in the country in future.
