NEPRA catches K-Electric red-handed, fleecing consumer

KARACHI: The management of K-Electric Limited has been caught red-handed while fleecing one of its consumers and directed by NEPRA to refund an amount of Rs 20,296/- that was charged unjustified, and asked to submit a report within 20 days positively.

It was disclosed in a letter addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, K-Electric Limited from the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) dated 22-12-2022 while acting on a complaint filed by a well-known advocate of the city. The complaint was regarding the detection bill and fuel charges adjustment. The hearing was held on 1st December 2022 at NEPRA Regional Office Karachi.

It was attended by both parties wherein the case was discussed at length. The scrutiny of the record provided by both the parties i.e. (KE and the Complainant) and joint site inspection was carried out on 12 December 2022 in presence of a NEPRA official. It was revealed that KE charged a detection bill to the Complainant on the basis of hook use whereas the alleged hook wires pertained to TV/ internet cables.

Keeping in view the available record the NEPRA was of the view that the detection bill charged by KE amounting to Rs 20,296/- was unjustified and the same is required to be withdrawn. While announcing this order Lashkar Khan Qambrani, Director (CAD) conveyed to direct the concerned officials to review the case in light of the above. “A report in this regard must be submitted within twenty (20) days, positively,” he added.
