Nomination papers of Nawaz Sharif from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have been accepted for contesting the elections in NA-130, as declared by Bilal Yaseen, a PML-N leader in Lahore. Sharif, a former three-time prime minister, submitted his candidacy for Lahore’s NA-130 on Sunday.
In conversation with the media, Bilal Yaseen shared Sharif's intention to contest from both Mansehra and Lahore National Assembly constituencies, aspiring for a fourth term as prime minister. Notably, Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer, Amjad Parvez, accompanied him during the submission of nomination papers.
The ongoing document verification process will continue until December 30, including scrutiny for specific minority and women candidates.
Despite Sharif’s return from a four-year self-imposed exile in London this October, significant legal obstacles remain in his pursuit of contesting the general elections. In a landmark decision related to the Panama Papers case in July 2017, Pakistan’s Supreme Court disqualified Sharif from holding public office, leading to his resignation as the prime minister.
