Shehbaz Sharif, the President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has reiterated that his party's leader, Nawaz Sharif, is returning to the country not for vengeance but to address the nation's crises.
Speaking at a political gathering in Lahore, Shehbaz emphasized that Nawaz Sharif's homecoming on October 21 is aimed at serving the people of Pakistan and resuming the journey toward prosperity.
Nawaz Sharif, a three-time former prime minister, has been in self-imposed exile in London since November 2019 due to health reasons. He was disqualified for life in 2017 by the Supreme Court for failing to declare a receivable salary.
Shehbaz urged party workers to prepare to welcome Nawaz and to raise awareness about the injustices he has faced. He asserted that Pakistan suffered a lack of progress and development due to Nawaz's removal from power.
Highlighting the achievements of Nawaz's previous government, Shehbaz pointed out that during his tenure, the country successfully resolved the issue of long power outages. He also compared economic indicators and inflation rates, noting that during Nawaz's term, the price of flour was significantly lower.
Shehbaz expressed his commitment to working with Nawaz Sharif to steer the country back on the path of development and growth.
Furthermore, Shehbaz recalled Nawaz's bold decision to conduct six nuclear tests in response to India's atomic tests, despite pressure from then-US President Bill Clinton.
He criticized the 2018 general elections as being "rigged" and detrimental to the country's progress and development.
Nawaz Sharif is scheduled to return to Pakistan on October 21 and will address a public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan at 6 pm on the same day. His legal team has prepared to seek protective bail from the court ahead of his arrival.
Initially, Shehbaz, Maryam Nawaz, and other party leaders were expected to speak at the event, but it has been decided that Nawaz will be the sole speaker. During his address, Nawaz is expected to unveil a narrative for PML-N workers, a suggestion put forth by Chief Organiser Maryam Nawaz.
