Naveed Qamar for changing agri practices to reduce climate change impacts

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Commerce and Investment Syed Naveed Qamar suggested climate change practitioners to focus on altering current agricultural practices, which have perpetuated waterlogging and erosion. 

Speaking at panel discussion on Living Indus, alongside Minister for Climate Change Senator Sherry Rehman at Sharm El-Sheikh, he highlighted importance of investing in re-educating and financing farmers to make modern and sustainable agricultural practices a priority. Minister shared his personal experiences with 2010 floods and subsequent relief efforts and lessons learned from then.

Unfortunately 10 years of drought allowed urbanisation in in flood-prone areas, which made 2022 floods even more devastating, Minister added. He informed panel about his experience regarding relief drive of area and devastating impact he witnessed firsthand, statement added.
