KARACHI: Sindh Government stepped forward to take care of animal health in the province by establishment of AMR & Zoonotic Laboratory inaugurated by Syed Najmi Alam, Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh. The Lab is established in Karachi by Sindh Institute of Animal Health in Korangi Industrial Area.

Alam said while talking to media that this latest laboratory would serve not only local Zoo animals but would be opened to household private pets, saving of wildlife and fisheries. The Lab will take care of animal health and the viral infections being spread from time to time in the province.

Zoonotic diseases are infections that can be passed from animals to humans or vice versa. They can be caused by bacteria, viruses, parasites, fungi, or other pathogens. It can spread through direct contact with an infected animal, or through contaminated food, water, or the environment. Some examples of Zoonotic diseases include Ebola, salmonellosis, and COVID-19.

Zoonotic diseases are a major public health concern because of the close relationship between humans and animals. They can also disrupt the production and trade of animal products. Factors that can contribute to the emergence of Zoonotic diseases include climate change, urbanization, animal migration and trade, and travel and tourism.

Our livestock department would follow instructions of the research in this Lab and implement latest techniques being adopted worldwide. I hope the people would find it an interesting addition to the health of their pets’ and protecting them from seasonal diseases, Najmi Alam added.
