ISLAMABAD: Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf said empowering women in leadership roles was not only matter of fairness and justice, but rather of urgency and necessity.

“Women bring unique perspectives and skills to table and their full participation in leadership positions is crucial for progress and development of our country,” he said.

Addressing National Convention of Women Parliamentarians at Pakistan National Council of Arts, event organised by Women Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) of National Assembly and attended by esteemed parliamentarians, government dignitaries and members of civil society Pervez underscored that it was “Our responsibility to create more inclusive and equitable society”, where women had equal opportunities and support they needed to succeed in leadership positions.

“Let us continue to work together to make this vision reality, for benefit of all our citizens in line with vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, who was true leader of people and epitome of women empowerment. Speaker praised efforts of Secretary of WPC Shahida Rehmani who has been dedicated to promoting women rights and highlighting their contributions on national and international forums.

Rehmani said, “Women have long been underrepresented in leadership positions and it is imperative that we continue our efforts to change that. We must work together to break down barriers that prevent women from reaching their full potential in all spheres of life, including politics and governance.”
