ISLAMABAD: National Assembly (NA) passed resolution against three-member Supreme Court bench’s verdict in Punjab polls delay case. Resolution expressed concern over judiciary’s meddling in political affairs. It demanded that Supreme Court should review its decision through full bench formation. Motion said that decision of minority had been imposed on majority and parliament rejected court decision.

Resolution asked Prime Minister to order Cabinet to ensure that decision of court was not implemented. Resolution said House considered simultaneous elections in all provinces and centre as only solution for stability in country.

Neither full court bench was formed nor any political party’s but one, point of view was paid heed to, which is ulta vires to court’s practice and procedure, read resolution, “Parliament rejects verdict of minority-ruled bench and declares majority-ruled verdict enforceable,” resolution added. Member National Assembly Khalid Magsi tabled resolution. However, PTI opposed move. Meanwhile, National Assembly also condemned Israeli aggression on Palestinians at Al-Aqsa Masjid.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif once again urged country's top court to review its decision on Punjab polls delay case and constitute full court to hear matter saying coalition government will accept any decision announced by full bench excluding "Two judges".

"We should respect superior court and its judges but they should enforce same laws on themselves that they are applying on others," he remarked while addressing ceremony here.

Criticising SC verdict in address, prime minister said nine-member bench of Supreme Court, constituted initially to hear Punjab polls delay case, reduced to three-member.

"Two-judges who initially recused themselves from hearing case should not have become part of bench," he said while referring to three-judge bench that overruled ECP move to postpone elections in Punjab."Who would have raised objections over verdict had it been announced by full court," PM added.

PM Shehbaz said his party was not running away from elections "As doing so would be tantamount to political death of political party".The PM said all the stakeholders should look at their conduct and decide whether they wanted to protect the future of coming generations or they wanted to indulge in fights for their personal interests and take Pakistan in a direction from which nobody could come back. “We have to protect the future of Pakistan which is faced with many challenges. We should take decisions with a cool head and stay united for the interest of Pakistan.” While expressing happiness at the construction of Lawyers Complex, he said the project would be built at a cost of Rs1.8 billion.
