Islamabad: NA Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting meeting held at PTV Headquarters here under Javairia Zafar Aheer in chair. Committee condemned malicious media campaign regarding recent visit of parliamentary delegation to Canada for 65th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference led by Speaker.

Chairperson of Committee directed Chairman PEMRA to appear in next meeting and asked for report of TV channels running media campaign.  Committee rejected “Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2021” (moved by Uzma Riaz, MNA) due to non-availability of mover. 

Committee deferred bills till meeting include Motion Pictures (Amendment) Bill, 2020 (Government Bill), Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2020 (Government Bill) and Associated Press of Pakistan Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2020 (Government Bill)., Committee appointed sub-Committee with Terms of References Naz Baloch, Convener, Kiran Imran Dar, Nadeem Abbas and Zulfiqar Ali Behan. Indecent Advertisement Prohibition (Amendment) Bill, 2022” (moved by Muhammad Jamal-ud-Din and Calling Attention Notice No. 29 regarding increasing obscenity on TV Channels” (moved by Moulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali and other MNAs also came under meeting.
