Murtaza Wahab vows to enhance healthcare facilities

KARACHI: Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that their goal is to improve healthcare facilities to provide relief to people during times of inflation, and they remain committed to this objective.
Speaking to media representatives after inaugurating dental unit and nursery facilities at Gizri Maternity Home, he mentioned that over past year, 14 hospitals under Karachi Metropolitan Corporation have been improved, with assistance from Sindh government. He said that journey of improvement in city would continue in same manner. Mayor’s representative for political affairs, Karamullah Waqasi and others were present. He noted that this old hospital in Gizri was privatised at one time and private organisation was charging heavily for treatment. When KMC reactivated hospital, significant changes began to take place.
He emphasised their determination to improve hospital, resulting in noticeable improvements. He said that in Gizri Maternity Home, steps have been taken to improve wards and with establishment of dental unit and nursery, facility will be able to serve people of area even better. He shared that in this hospital, OPD costs Rs 20 and ultrasound is available for Rs 150. Delivery services are provided for only Rs 2,000, and root canal treatment for Rs 500. He mentioned that they have improved gynaecology ward of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and established child health institution there. Similarly, Sarfraz Rafiqui Shaheed Hospital was not operational, but facilities have now been provided there, including dental services and sugar tests. He highlighted that leadership of Pakistan Peoples’ Party activated nursing school at Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases, which will improve economic conditions of 130 families.
