Murtaza Wahab seems ‘unhappy’ with ex-FinMin Miftah Ismail, but why?

KARACHI: Sindh government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab expressed regret over statement issued by former Finance Minister Miftah Ismail against PPP-led provincial government. In statement, he noted that former finance czar claimed Sindh government does not collect agricultural and property taxes from citizens, expressing regret over statement.
“It is unfortunate that person, serving on position of Finance Minister is unaware of tax-related matters”, Murtaza Wahab said. He pointed out that Sindh Revenue Board collects Rs 160 billion tax annually after 18th amendment in Constitution, adding that facts and figures should be checked before issuing such statements. He alleged Federal Revenue Board was not performing its duty accordingly.
Earlier in day, Miftah Ismail addressing seminar here - said that federal government must reduce its expenses and lamented that provincial government does not collect taxes.
He said Pakistan has reached to this state owing to mistakes of last 75 years. “IMF extended relief during Covid, but we repeatedly committed mistakes,” he added. He said Shaukat Tarin on claimed gave budget without International Monetary Fund support. After it, he went to IMF and announced mini budget, Miftah said.
