Murtaza Wahab gets LG seat to stay Karachi Mayor

KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples’ Party leader Murtaza Wahab has won local government (LG) seat which was crucial to retain his position as Karachi Mayor. Murtaza Wahab has managed to win an LG seat which was crucial to retaining his Karachi mayoral post. In by-polls, Wahab was elected unopposed as Union Council Chairman in Ibrahim Hyderi. Politician will also participate in polls from Gizri and Keamari areas.

PPP leader had been directly nominated and elected as Karachi mayor by majority of LG representatives in June. However, he was due to participate in an elections within six months to retain his position in accordance with amended Sindh LG Act. In relevant development, following Jamaat-e-Islami petition, candidates from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf also challenged election tribunal’s decision in high court against approval of Murtaza Wahab’s nomination papers. PTI candidates of UC 3 Keamari and UC 8 Ibrahim Hyderi challenged approval of Murtaza Wahab’s nomination papers.
