KARACHI : Mayor Murtaza Wahab said that he will work diligently on problems facing by Karachi including infrastructure, water, sewage, mass transit, solid waste.We will learn from our mistakes, now we have to look to future.


I assure citizens that they will see work being done in city, one cannot go to city by pleasing everyone and tough decisions will have to be made. Cleaning of more than 550 storm water drains is in progress with work on various water and sewage projects. Unfair distribution of water must be ended, first phase of Malir Expressway will be completed from Qayyumabad to Shah Faisal byAugust 14 and new four lane bridge will be constructed along with Jam SadiqAli Bridge.Addressing ceremony held at Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry he said Karachi gets water from two sources. Kenjhar Lake gets 450 mgd water and Hub 100 mgd water while Karachi needs 1,000 to 1,100 mgd water. He said that new canal is being built to get more water. Karachi will get 50 mgd more water, it is proposed to set up desalination plant in Ibrahim Hydari from where Karachi will get7 mgd water. He said if K4 project is completed, 200 mgd of water will be available to Karachi. We are trying to eliminate

leakage of water from lines. There was always water standing around Wazir Mansion, birthplace of Quaid-e-Azam, during rains, we have corrected drainage system after that water will be drained out instantly. Beautification of I I. Chundrigar Road which is calledWall Street of Pakistan was also done with all wires underground, city Station Bridge has been beautified. He said work is in progress on Sher Shah Road and 31 roads of site, 4.5 billion rupees have been approved for site areas, Sands-pit, Maripur Road has been constructed, one track of Baloch Colony Expressway has been completed. He said that three urban forests have been built in city. I wish that 25 urban forests should be built in 25 towns of Karachi under public-private partnership. Two new model graveyard will be built in Karachi one in Malir and other in Keamari. He said that work on Red Line and Yellow Line is in progress and will be completed

as soon as possible. PPP South District General Secretary KaramullahWaqasi, Chamber of Commerce President Tariq Yusuf, Zubair Motiwala, Zubair Balwani, Shamim Firpo and number of leaders and members of Chamber were present. Meanwhile, Murtaza Wahab said that he wants to work together to provide relief to people of Karachi. For now, we have to pay full attention to Eid-ul-Adha operation to ensure cleanliness in city on this important occasion, he said this at coordination meeting held at Sindh SolidWaste Management office with PTI and Jamaat-e-Islami town chairmen and vice-chairmen regarding Eid-ul-Adha arrangements. Wahab assured town chairmen that all possible support will be provided for early resolution of problems that have been identified by chairmen of different areas, for betterment of city.We want to work together, that’s why we are coordinating with all elected local representatives.  After Eid-ul-Azha, Town Chairman’s offices and other needs will be fulfilled.Apart from designated collection points, points proposed by town chairmen will also be considered in connection with arrangements for Eid-ul- Azha. He said excavation work at landfill

sites to safely bury offal has now completed. Total of 18 trenches have been dug to bury waste and offal, while 93 collection points will be created to collect offa and 6,802 vehicles and 24,366 manpower will be used in operation of collecting offal.
