KARACHI: Syed Murad Ali Shah received third consecutive term at serving as Sindh Chief Minister as he took oath of his office at Governor House.
Governor Kamran Tessori administered him oath in ceremony attended by Pakistan Peoples' Party Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PPP MNAs and MPAs, representatives of business community and others. Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar and members of caretaker Cabinet were present.
During Chief Minister's election, presided over by Sindh Assembly Speaker Owais Qadir Shah, total of 148 votes were cast, with Murad Ali Shah obtaining 112. His opponent, MQM-P candidate Ali Khurshidi, garnered 36 votes.
Lawmakers from Jamat-i-Islami and Sunni Ittehad Council, which was joined by PTI-backed independents who won seats in February 8 polls, abstained from participating in voting process.
Following oath-taking, Shah warmly shook hands with Bilawal, signifying sense of camaraderie and continuity within PPP.Session began with Speaker Shah calling upon members to take their respective positions as voting process unfolded.
Murad Ali Shah, the nominee of the Pakistan Peoples Party Politico has served twice as Sindh's Shief Minister from 2016 to 2018 and then from 2018 to 2023 and this will be his third consecutive term.
Born in Sehwan Sharif in Jamshoro district, Shah is civil engineer by profession as after his graduation from NED University he joined Water and Power Development Authority as an engineer.
