Murad approves Rs46.3bn for construction of 71 damaged roads by floods

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah approved overhauling and reconstruction of 71 roads damaged by heavy rains/floods at Rs 46.3 billion so that works could start at earliest. "Overhauling of damaged roads, particularly small ones connecting farms to market, villages to main roads are important for easy access of people for revival of economy."
Presiding over a meeting here he was told that 71 roads in 23 districts with an overall length of 1473.38 kilometers have been damaged by heavy rains and floods. They include in district Jamshoro, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Naushehroferoze, Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, TM Khan, Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Umrkot, Sanghar, Tharparkar, Sukkur, Ghotki, Khairpur, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Kashmore-Kandhkot, Larkana and in Kamber-Shahdadkot. Minister Works Zia Abbas Shah, Chief Secretary Sohail Rajput, Chairman P&D Hassan Naqvi, PSCM Fayaz Jatoi, Secretary Works Imran Atta and chief engineer roads attended meeting.
Zia Abbas Shah told c that estimated cost of roads has been worked out at Rs 46.32 billion. Chief Minister approved scheme and directed Chairman P&D Hassan Naqvi to finalise formalities and get work started at earliest. It was also pointed out that Asian Development Bank has also agreed to finance repair of some major roads of province for which necessary documentation was being completed.
