Multi-party conference: a welcome move

In the wake of increasing law and order situation, prevailing political uncertainty together with unprecedented economic crisis, the move by the current coalition government to convene a multi-party conference is a welcome development as it will provide both the ruling parties and the opposition to sit together and devise a collective strategy to combat the stiff challenges faced by the nation.

The scheduled moot is to be held on Feb 7 and one hopes that the Opposition parties mainly the PTI and its chief for PM Imran Khan, who have been invited to this all important conference, will attend the meetings to cooperate with the Govt in this critical juncture of period arising out of the law and order situation.

The moot is aimed discussing and forming a joint strategy to thwart the increasing activities of the terrorists, who are on the rampage in the country.

Right now the nation is passing through critical juncture of period. On the one hand, the IMF team is in the country for 9th review regarding bail-0ut plan for Pakistan, while on the other the banned TTP outfit is striking at will across the country which has set the alarms bells ringing. Political uncertainty is also a factor taking toll on the economy and the situation requires collective steps by all stakeholders, the government, opposition and the masses at large so that the nation can be steered out of the current crisis galore ranging from political to economic to rule of law situation.

Meanwhile, it is reported that the PTI was also invited to attend the apex body meeting in Peshawar to discuss the situation arising out of the TTP attacks across the country particularly in KP. It may be recalled here that the Apex Committee was established after the APC attack in Peshawar in 2015 with a view to monitoring, expediting and acting upon  the National Action Plan (NAP) against terrorism, so that it can be implemented in real sense of the word to combat the existing security threats from the banned TTP and other militant groups.

As a matter of fact, there is an urgent need for enhancing the capabilities of our police and Counter-Terrorism Department for which they should be equipped with latest weapons and equipment so that they can counter the terrorists, who are laced with latest weapons and are well trained.

One hopes that those at the helm of affairs of the country will give special attention to this issue and the coming moots and meetings will discuss ways and means to better equip the police force which is the front line in defense.

As a matter of fact, there is no time for political point scoring or war of words right now. Rather all the stakeholders should come together to devise a collective mechanism to overcome the crisis.

It has also been witnessed in recent times that the National Assembly is seemingly divided on initiating another comprehensive military operation against the terrorists in the tribal areas. The religious parties like the JUI-F are of the view that since previous military operation in tribal areas could not produce the desired results, there is not need for another operation.

But analysts do not agree with these religious parties as military operation is need of the hour.

Meanwhile, analysts also advise the PTI leadership to do away with the politics of confrontation for the sake of opposition right now.

One fails to understand as what the PTI chief Imran Khan is up to? He is hell bent to create law and order situation by going ahead with his so-called anti-government, which will take toll on the overall security and economic situation as well.

Question arises into mind as to why not Mr Khan spend those funds on the relief activities for the flood victims who are running from pillar to post to make both ends meet.

As a matter of fact, the nation is in grip of severe economic crunch. In such testing time, one would advise the IK to focus on relief activities for the unprivileged instead of spending lavishly on party issues.

As a matter of fact, the IK should mobilise his workers and supporters to help the flood affected people and the poor segment of the society.

It is very unfortunate that the masses are reeling in real pain and agony but the PTI leaders are more concerned about their political point-scoring.

Right now, all the parties and political leaders need to work together to minimize the sufferings of the people, who are running from pillar to post to make both ends meet.

The pictures of hungry and poor people across the country are doing rounds on the social media, with the affected people making hectic appeals for food and other needs of life due to economic crisis, but IK seems to be more interested in political activities than coming to the rescue of the masses.

The government and every political party and leader have the responsibility to collectively help the poor masses, who are dependent on food, water and other essentials provided by Govt,  philanthropists or non-government organisations.

Collective efforts are the only way out to steer the country out of crisis in the wake of country’s default rumours circulating on the social media.
