Karachi: Flood victims will get relief from Army rescue operation. Multinational and national companies should immediately provide tents, food and clothes to help flood victims under corporate social responsibility. A volunteer disaster management force under supervision of a deputy commissioner should be formed in every union council on federal and provincial levels, as government’s resources are limited.

Chairman of Consumer Association of Pakistan (CAP) Kaukab Iqbal addressing a meeting called to help flood-affected people said that all political parties of country should end their differences in this difficult time and play their role to provide relief to flood affected people. Leaders of political parties shared sufferings of flood victims and provide maximum relief to people. Suffering people will always remember it because those who support them in their sorrows stay in their hearts.

Kaukab Iqbal said that some profit-seeking traders have increased prices of tents and other items enormously and government should take action against such profiteers under Profiteering Act. He said it is need of hour to use rainwater after storing it. In response to a question, Kaukab said that Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has issued an immediate directive to fill potholes on roads damaged by rains. He said that traffic police officers not only helped people stuck on roads in rains under instructions of Additional IG Javeed Alam Odhu and DIG Traffic Ahmed Nawaz but also repaired their damaged vehicles. Set a great example of patriotism but also filled road potholes with heavy machinery to maintain flow of traffic on various highways. He said that federal and provincial government departments should also set similar examples. Kaukab Iqbal said that climate change has started and weather of whole world has changed. Allah saved our country from drought and there was excessive rain for which neither people nor government had ever made any strategy.

It was also seen that forecast of Meteorological Department was not proved correct, many spells of rain came one after another and there, as a result many villages have been wiped out and people are waiting for help under open sky. He said that five friends were swept away in floods in Kohistan and relevant agencies including government failed to rescue them, due to which they lost their lives, which is saddening entire nation. Kaukab said that Railway Minister Saad Rafiq has timely postponed railway operation for four days in view of rains and floods. Corporate social responsibility fund should be spent by users and it is not a burden on any company.
