MQM-Pakistan leader Kunwar Naveed Jamil passes away

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan senior leader Kunwar Naveed Jamil passed away after prolonged illness, party confirmed. He was 59. MQM-P leader had been undergoing treatment at private hospital here for several months. He had suffered brain haemorrhage.
He was born on March 15, 1964 in Karachi's Azizabad area and was elected as member of National Assembly for first time in 1990 and member of Sindh assembly in 2002.
In 2005, he resigned from provincial assembly seat and was elected as mayor of Hyderabad district.
He was re-elected as member of National Assembly in 2015 after defeating then-Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Imran Ismail in by-elections.
He was again re-elected as member of Sindh in 2018 elections. Jamil also held post of MQM-P's Deputy Convener before falling ill in 2022.
MQM-Pakistan Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui expressed sorrow over demise of Jamil saying he was "Rare asset" and senior leader of movement.
"Kunwar Naveed's services to MQM and country are unforgettable," party Chief added in statement.
Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori and former Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah also expressed sadness over demise of MQM-Pakistan leader.
His funeral prayers will be offered today at Mustafa Masjid in DHA phase one here and will be laid to rest in DHA Phase 8 graveyard, MQM-Pakistan announced.
