Karachi: As rift between Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan and coalition government continues over ongoing digital census, party has sought resignations from its members of national and provincial assemblies and Senate, sources told. According to sources privy to development, party has reservations over procedure of census in Karachi and Hyderabad. In January, MQM-P Convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui iterated that his party had withdrawn contract of saving and forming governments in their bid to break away from conventional tactics to pressurise governments. “Streets are our house [assembly]. Now, we will settle and build it,” he added.
Meanwhile, party has shared serious objections over census figures so far in meeting held with members of its Coordination Committee-Rabita Committee. “Rabita Committee expressed concerns over non-serious attitude of rulers regarding census,” party spokesperson said in statement. In meeting, presided by Dr Siddiqui, party members discussed inaccurate statistics despite conducting meetings with ministers and relevant authorities and presenting evidence against irregularities.
Former Karachi mayor was of view that Sindh population of urban areas is being shown less and in rural areas, it is being shown more than actual figures by census authorities. Dr Sattar feared that Karachi’s population would be shown 66 percent less than its actual head count. Provincial government is committing rigging in census by their “Own enumerators”, he added.
“MQM-P will inform public through media about future action plan after further consultation,” statement read. Party, which is part of coalition government in Islamabad also discussed country’s political and economic situation in detail, as well as deliberated over its various organisational matters.
