ISLAMABAD: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan announced to vote for Pakistan Peoples’ Party’s Asif Ali Zardari in presidential election.

MQM-P Convener Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui made announcement in joint media talk with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto here. Bilawal Bhutto said new government’s main focus will be on Karachi. Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that construction and development of Pakistan is their ‘first goal.

“We will resolve issues of Karachi with joint efforts. Asif Ali Zardari as President will take every possible measure for Karachi. We will also take steps at local level,” Bilawal said PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari reached MQM-P Convener Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui’s residence in Parliament lodges Earlier, MQM-P agreed to vote for Asif Ali Zardari in presidential election in meeting with Prime Minsiter Shehbaz Sharif.

The president is elected via secret ballot in a special session of the parliament, Senate, and all four provincial assemblies under Article 41(3) of the Constitution, after the formation of the Electoral College.

As far as the number of lawmakers concerned, who would attend the electoral event, the Electoral College of 692 votes includes 96 senators, 336 Members of the National Assembly (MNAs), and 260 votes from the four provincial assemblies.

According to the Second Schedule, the candidate obtaining the largest number of votes would be declared winner by the chief election commissioner (CEC) while the federal government will declare the results of the presidential election via a public notification.
