KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has threatened to quit coalition government in Centre if an immediate explanation is not given over recovery of bodies of its three missing activists. It emerged after MQM-P Convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and conveyed premier regarding backlash party has faced over recovery of bodies of missing activists.
“Prime Minister should clear air regarding it either by visiting Karachi or sending interior minister to city,” Khalid Maqbool demanded. He warned that if situation is not explained in a week then MQM-P will be forced to not only leave ministries but will also quit coalition government. MQM-P convener said that recovery of bodies of missing party activists is a serious issue for them which requires an immediate probe.
Prime Minister assured Khalid Maqbool that he was taking matter seriously. “I will personally visit Karachi and take MQM-P leadership into confidence over matter,” PM Shehbaz Sharif was quoted as saying by sources. Meanwhile, Deputy Convener and former Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar has warned that party might withdraw support to federal government if their missing workers are not recovered.
Former mayor said that MQM-P did not support Shehbaz Sharif to become prime minister so they could collect bodies of its workers. Akhtar threatened to leave government if missing MQM workers are not recovered. “You better take care of your government,” he said.
Party is currently also faced with backlash from within after induction of Kamran Tessori with multiple coordination committee members expressing their anger over it.
“MNA Kishwar Zehra has conveyed her reservations to party in written in which she stated that she is part of committee but will not remain silent on unjustified decisions,” they said.
