More than 90,000 Afghan refugees returned via Torkham Border

PESHAWAR: Over 90,000 Afghan refugees have returned to home via Torkham Border following government decision to send illegal foreign nationals back to their respective countries.
Process of voluntary return of Afghan refugees from KP is underway following government decision to send undocumented foreigners back to their countries. Home department KP has set up temporary camps in Peshawar, Haripur and district Khyber for repatriation of illegal Afghan refugees.
From Wednesday illegal foreigners will be arrested and transferred to their camps and later they will be sent to Afghanistan via Torkham.
Temporary camp in Peshawar has capacity to accommodate 2,000 persons. Medical aid, food and water will be also provided to them. Special security arrangements have been made in temporary camps.
On other side interior department has established control room as well where process of return is being monitored. Helpline has also been launched wherefrom illegal foreigners will be identified and guidance will be provided in regard to other problems.
Number of Afghan refugees residing in KP is more than 900,000 while visas have been issued to 116,418 Afghans this year.
