Mohsin Naqvi directs to launch crackdown against drug mafia

Rawalpindi: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi directed to launch comprehensive crackdown against drug mafia to protect future generations from scourge of drugs and sought comprehensive plan in this regard. Chairing meeting at Anti-Narcotics Force Headquarters here, he sought plan to stop online sales of drugs.

He said scourge of drugs, especially ice, has destroyed many families and in order to limit this increasing trend of drugs, immediate and multi-faceted measures are needed. He reiterated that we must all work together with full zeal and determination to fight against this menace for sake of our children.

Meeting decided to ensure robust action against sale and purchase of drugs, especially ice, in educational institutions, hostels and universities. In this regard, consultations will be held with provinces and they will be taken into confidence. Joint meeting of federal and provincial departments will be held by end of this month in which all Provincial Ministers for Excise and Inspectors General of police will be invited.

Meanwhile, Naqvi took notice of complaints of over-billing, even of protected customers and ordered legal action against officers and staff involved in malpractice. He directed all directors of Federal Investigation Agency to redress grievance of customers who used 200 units of electricity. He said that deliberately including protected consumers in non-protected category is criminal act which cannot be allowed. FIA should investigate and take action against officials without discrimination. Anti-Corruption Circle of FIA has started an inquiry into over-billing of protected customers by Lahore Electric Supply Company. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday directed to take stern action against officials involved in overbilling of electricity bills.
