Ministry holds meeting on enhancing competitiveness, efficiency in local manufacturing industry

KARACHI: Engineering Development Board (EDB) has invited the local industry to submit proposals for the Competitiveness and Efficiency Improvement Exercise 2025-26.

This is a crucial step towards enhancing competitiveness and rationalizing the cost of doing business in the local manufacturing industry. In this regard the Ministry of Industries and Production/EDB is to kick-off on-line (zoom meeting) consultation process with industry with the objective to inter-alia discussion on Tuesday January 28, 2025 under ‘Budget and Competitiveness’ heading to receive proposals from various industries along with justification.   Additional Secretary (MoIP) or CEO-EDB shall chair the meeting to discuss proposals with the industry to ensure formulation of meaningful proposals in accordance with government’s vision ‘Uraan Pakistan’, for the forthcoming budget.  According to informed sources the meeting objectives are to identify areas for improvement and propose solutions to enhance competitiveness of the local manufacturing industry.  This includes the Customs duties, Sales Tax and regulatory duties that affect the industry. Identify anomalies and challenges faced by the industry and propose solutions.  Simplify Customs procedures to facilitate trade, export challenges faced by exporters and propose solutions. Proposals and grievances that may enhance competitiveness and efficiency of the industry in the country sources disclosed.
