Minister orders investigation into ‘mysterious deaths’

KARACHI: Sindh Interior Minister ordered an immediate investigation to determine causes behind ‘mysterious deaths’ in Karachi.

Expressing deep grief and regret over ‘mysterious deaths’, Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar ordered an immediate investigation to find cause of incidents. in past 3 days, 36 bodies found amid extreme heat. “K-Electric will be held accountable if inquiry reveals prolonged load shedding as primary cause of these deaths”, HE stated. He said that murder charges would be filed against KE administrators and, responsible person if inquiry reveals prolonged load shedding as primary cause of these deaths. Earlier in day, dead bodies continued to surface across Karachi for third consecutive day, with three more bodies discovered in different areas of city. According to rescue officials, bodies were found on footpaths in Manghopir, Orangi Town and Gulshan-e-Maymar area. Body of 50-year-old Munawar was discovered in Orangi No. 12 and was later shifted to hospital, meanwhile, identities and causes of death of other two victims, 50-year-old man found in Gulshan-e-Maymar area and 35-year-old man near Manghopir Canal, remain unknown.

Efforts were underway to identify deceased and determine circumstances surrounding their deaths. Rescue officials continue to monitor situation as investigations proceed.
