Military’s role in ensuring ‘peaceful rise’ highly significant: PM

Rawalpindi: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised military’s role in Pakistan’s “Peaceful rise” and noted that nation is “Destined to rise”.
According to military’s media wing, he and his Cabinet members visited General Headquarters Rawalpindi and met military’s top leadership including Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir.
During high-level visit, Inter-Services Public Relations said, premier and Cabinet members engaged in discussions with military leadership on matters of national security, regional stability and military preparedness.
“They were briefed on current security environment, threat spectrum, response to security threats and ongoing counter terrorism operations,” statement read.
PM and Cabinet members appreciated professionalism, operational readiness and sacrifices of Pakistan Army in war against terrorism and commended dedication of military in safeguarding nation’s territorial integrity and ensuring peace and stability.
PM Shehbaz said, “Pakistan is destined to rise and role of armed forces in ensuring peaceful rise of Pakistan cannot be over-emphasised,” statement quoted PM as saying.
“COAS affirmed that Pakistan Army will continue to measure up to nation’s expectations and will resolutely support government in addressing security challenges facing Pakistan.”
Visit concluded with civilian and military leadership reiterating their commitment to upholding national interests and working together for prosperous and secure Pakistan, statement mentioned.
Prior to meeting, visitors paid tribute to martyrs, PM Shehbaz laid floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada.
