MD SSWMB warns of action against burning garbage

Karachi: Managing Director Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah paid surprise visit to South District and inspected sanitation situation. SSWMB MD visited at Nahar-e- Khayyam near Board Basin for checking veracity of complaint regarding garbage burning in area.

During his visit, concerned officers caught person who set garbage on fire and threw it into to nullah. SSWMB officials were apprehended person on spot and handed over him to area police for further proceedings.

MD directed police for legal action should be taken by filing an FIR against person. Gul Mohar trees have been planted under Karachi Neighbourhood Improvement Project (KNIP) at surrounding of Nehar Khayam. Due to garbage fire environment is also being polluted by smoke, Shah added. According to complainant, waste from nearby hotels and restaurants is also being dumped into nullah near Nehr-e-Khayyam. MD gave on-spot instruction and asked concerned officers to check who is throwing waste in drain and take action against them under Section 144.
