Mayor Wahab visits pumping station site, assures reconstruction new one

Karachi: Mayor Karachi and Chairman Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) Barrister Murtaza Wahab visited Jamila Pumping Station along with Chief Executive Officer of KWSC Syed Salahuddin Ahmed to inspect maintenance work on line.
36-inch sewerage line of Jamila Pumping Station the Mirza Adam Khan Road sunk down on Saturday. He said that Jamila Pumping Station was built in 1836 and now it needs reconstruction. He said that provincial government will be include restoration work of station. Annual Development Plan and funds would be allocated in upcoming budget for construction of a new pumping station. He mentioned that they would soon address issues with sewerage system in old city area. During visit, CEO Water Corporation briefed mayor about maintenance work, stating that line at the pumping station got clogged three times in past ten days. Main reason for blockage is that main line has completed its life cycle and after completing repairs twice, it got clogged again. He explained that to provide an alternative solution, bypass line is being installed in Liyari River and repair work on bypass line would be completed within next 72 hours. He said that bypass line is 120 feet long and 20 feet deep, making maintenance work challenging due to presence of water and gas lines above deep and rising main. He mentioned that due to blockages in rising main, pumps at Jamila Pumping Station are being affected repeatedly, causing inconvenience to areas like old city, Ram Swami, Ranchore Line, Jamila Street, Kalakot, Jinnahabad and Malir Colony.
