Mayor urges people to report theft of grills, poles from parks

Karachi: Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab inaugurated newly constructed Dinosaur Park in Safari Park. According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, it is first modern and largest Park in city.
Talking to media he said, would complete development work for public welfare. Construction work on Red Line Bus Rapid Transit project is accelerated and would be completed as soon as possible. He asked people to report to police if they witnessed destructive activities in city such as theft of poles and grills from public places. "Poles and streetlights are being stolen, grills are being cut in parks, everyone is making videos of them but no one is reporting to police," he lamented.
Karachi Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad, KMC Municipal Commissioner Syed Afzal Zaidi, spokesperson for Mayor for Political Affairs Karamullah Waqasi, KMC senior Director Recreation Iqbal Nawaz, Safoora Town Chairman Ashiq Khaskheli, local leaders of Pakistan Peoples' Party and officials of KMC were present. He said Dino Safari Park covering an area of one acre was reflecting era of dinosaurs. He said that they had dedicated park for families and students of schools and colleges. There are also animated dinosaurs walking in Park. Sindh government provided funds worth Rs 100 million to KMC for construction of Park. Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had promised to work in different areas of city without discrimination.
"We will also solve water and infrastructure issues," and assured people that he would not be dishonest though he may make mistakes. Amidst Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation facing default of Rs 50 billion owed by city's residents, Mayor vowed to address financial challenges and counter water theft to enhance water infrastructure. Water Corporation would give 150 manhole caps to all union committees of city.
Earlier, he said funds were needed to run organisations. He said that if any police officer was found involved in stealing water, action would be taken against him. "I am in touch with higher authorities of police. Local bodies used to produce construction materials themselves, now they will re-establish chain," he said.
Addressing event organised by KWSC Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad, PPP leader in City Council Najmi Alam, Karamullah Waqasi, District Central General Secretary Dil Muhammad, Chairman of various union committees, Chief Operating Office of Corporation Syed Salahuddin, Chief Operating Officer Asadullah Khan and officials were present.
