Lahore: Prominent religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel's son Asim Jamil passed away in mysterious circumstances in Punjab's Tulamba.

Tragic news was shared by scholar himself on social media platform X, requesting prayers for departed soul. "My son Asim Jameel passed away in Tulamba. This accidental death has made atmosphere sombre. All of you are requested to remember us in your prayers on this sad occasion. May Allah grant my son high place in Jannatul Firdous," he said.

Dr Asif Imam of Tulamba Hospital confirmed death. According to reports, Asim was exercising at his gym in farmhouse while guard was standing alert for his security. Asim took pistol from guard and shot himself in chest, it added.

Meanwhile, IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar has taken notice of incident and sought report from RPO Multan. He said that cause of death should be determined in light of evidence and forensic report.

According to Punjab Police, DPO Khanewal and senior police officers are present at spot and evidences are being collected.

Caretaker PM Anwaarul Haq Kakar,  PML-Nawaz President and former PM Shehbaz Sharif and Istehkam-e-Pakistan President Abdul Aleem Khan took to X to express condolences to religious scholar.
