Matric results announced: Govt school secures first position after 28 years

KARACHI: Karachi Board of Secondary Education has announced annual results for Matric Science exams for year 2024. According to results, signed by Acting Controller Zaheeruddin Bhutto, government school has secured first position after 28 years.
Last time government school achieved top position in Matric examinations was in 1996 when Delhi Government Boys School secured distinction. Since then, private schools have consistently claimed top positions as academic performance in government schools declined.
Student who secured first position this year is Hafiz Abdul Rafay Tariq, son of Tariq Mahboob, mathematics teacher at Delhi Government Boys Secondary School in Karimabad. Abdul Rafay scored 1,040 out of 1,100 marks, achieving percentage of 94.55 percent.
Second and third positions were claimed by students from private schools. Rumaissa Imran from Al-Khalil Model School in Malir secured second position with 1,037 marks and 94.27 percent. Rukhsar from Little Folks School in North Nazimabad secured third position with 1,025 marks and 93.18 percent.
Total of 163,012 candidates were registered for Matric Science examinations, with 933 candidates absent. Out of 162,026 candidates who appeared for examinations, 131,614 were declared successful, resulting in pass rate of 81.24 percent.
According to detailed results, 23,943 candidates passed with an A-1 grade, 45,357 with an A grade, 37,595 with B grade, 20,837 with C grade, 4,031 with D grade and 25 candidates secured E grade.
Total of 76,831 female candidates and 85,195 male candidates participated in examinations. Among them, 63,767 females and 67,847 males were successful.
In terms of top grades, 15,616 females and 8,327 males passed with an A-1 grade, while 23,357 females and 22,000 males secured an A grade.
