Rawalpindi: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz blasted Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial for his remarks on parliamentarians during  hearing of Punjab election delay case.  “When parliamentarians were talking about law and Constitution, you [CJP] taunted them. Do you know how prideful it is to go to jail for an ideology?” said PML-N leader while addressing lawyers’ convention here.  Maryam’s comments came after CJP remarked that certain lawmakers speaking on floor of National Assembly had served jail terms and were declared traitors in past.

“Today, when you go to parliament, you find people who were, until yesterday in captivity, imprisoned, declared traitors. They are now talking over there and being respected because they are representatives of people.”

His remarks were also criticised by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif who said that it was matter of pride for him that he had been released by high court on merit in false and fabricated cases.

Maryam said that Chief Justice had gotten emotional during election delay case hearing, adding that he should have gotten emotional when “I spent five months in Adiala Jail and five months in National Accountability Bureau’s custody”.

Referring to her imprisonment, Maryam said that she was in Adiala Jail for 5 months, but Chief Justice did not get emotional at that time.

Moving on to arch-rival Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan, Maryam said that ex-chief of Inter-Services Intelligence General (retd) Faiz Hameed was biggest facilitator of former premier.

She said that though former military man had hung his boots now, his remnants were still facilitating Khan.

Maryam said Khan’s wife directed PTI’s social media team leader Arsalan Khalid to link everyone to treason when former premier staged “Cypher drama”.

She stated that PML-N leaders served sentences given unjustly but they appeared before courts. “Only those whose hands are clean do this,” said Maryam. She asked if “Pinky pirni” (Bushra Bibi) wasn’t a public office holder then why she [Maryam] and Justice Isa’s wife Sarina Isa were treated like public office holders.

Maryam slammed Khan for not declaring Tyrian White as his daughter. “When prime minister can be disqualified over an Iqama, then why another Prime Minister couldn’t be disqualified over such big lie,” she asked. She said Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah had gone to jail in false case while PTI Chief was getting bail in dozens of cases.
