LUMS event: a case in point

The LUMS event is talk of the town and there are two points of view. One is that the students of LUMS spoke the truth, not oppressively, but raised the word right in front of the Sultan and made him helpless with sharp questions.

The students fearlessly asked questions to the ruler of time and asked why you came 50 minutes late to the ceremony, who gave you the right to waste our time, are these the things of flourishing in the age?

And someone took the patience of the ruler for not announcing the date of the elections and said, "Isn't this a violation of the constitution, didn't you take an oath under the constitution, aren't you afraid of accountability?"

Well, I have written these question on my behalf, the enthusiasm of the students was of such a kind that that at times they crossed limits which should not be the case.

Critics say that they asked questions with the intention of showing humiliating the Prime Minister and this should not be the case. The students neither knew about the constitution nor did they want to criticize the government policies by asking a scholarly question on a subject, their only aim was that when they asked a question, their colleague make a recording from a mobile phone, which can be uploaded on social media later and become viral and thus become a celebrity overnight.

This is the reason why they asked such questions which were meant to tease the guest of the ceremony.

if there was a strong ruler in place of this caretaker PM, no one would have dared to ask such questions.

Two years ago, when the real ruler had visited the LUMS, the organisers had taken out the mobile phones of these students, and they were unable to take pics or do recording of the event. This is not a democracy, if you do this, how will there be a revolution in the country?'

There is no need to tell you what my point of view is in this matter. I am not despising these young people, nor do I want them to ask sharp questions in the future, do it a hundred times, but Look into your own affairs once before. These are the same young people who study in LUMS and other universities of this type, who do not care about any sign or one-way when they leave home in their car. If a poor traffic cop tries to stop and challan them, they abuse him, threaten him with his father's position and sometimes they don't hesitate to run over him. This is their sense of superiority.

It is known that now social media make jokes about them. And speaking of their honesty and integrity, their real face exposed on the same day when the strong politician had visited them at LUMS last year.

They kept listening to uncle's words, no one's conscience woke up that day, no one dared to ask the uncle as why you came here, what is your job here, even at that time no such video has gone viral in which a child has asked the question why you have made religion a business, is your lifestyle in accordance with Islam, which you came to teach us.  But they did not ask any harsh question, so why these double sandards.

Critics say that we give these a concession and we suggest that they hold the next event in honor of the vice chancellor of their own university, at which they have to answer questions directly. They should be given permission so that they can also record it. There they should ask their VC as to why he is getting a monthly salary of around one crore which you must spend most of your time with currency dealers to convert it into dollars, while the poor worker like the cleaners are not paid even minimum salaries by the university administration, so doesn't your conscience bother you when you sleep at night? . This is a question which the LUMS students should answer.

On the other hand, some educational experts and analysts are supporting the students’ move. They say that it is no longer customary for us that a representative of the people goes to a school, and faces the questions of the people, and tries to answer them satisfactorily.

We have a tradition of VIP culture, big cars of protocol, motorcycles with hooters threatening people. We have always seen such rulers. Somewhere traffic is blocked because of them, people are dying in ambulances, some places are blocked and people's lives are suffering. VIP people are not tolerant of answering people's questions, even talking to people or even shaking hands.

Besides, in this system, people neither have the right to question nor deserve an answer. It is considered that the people have no consciousness of life and no democratic rights.

There has been an uproar on social media regarding the Prime Minister's visit to LUMS. Some are saying that the students have humiliated the Prime Minister, some are saying that the Prime Minister has humiliated the students.

The Prime Minister's visit is not being seen as a scholarly political debate, the trends of the incident are forming on it. Some are supporting the debate while others term is at uncivilized trend to put such questions to the Chief Guest of the ceremony.

This discussion does not necessarily mean that what the Prime Minister said in LUMS is right or completely wrong. The thing to say is that we have lost the patience required to discuss any academic or political topic. We are in such a hurry that we don't care about the event and its background.

This is the age of likes, shares and views, this is the age of going viral. In this age, patience and reason are meaningless.

And last but not the least, asking question is practice in civilized society, but this does not mean that questions should be based on baseless things.
