LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) threw out petition seeking to declare arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry illegal, asking former Minister to approach relevant forum for having case against him dismissed.
Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh told Fawad’s counsel that his client’s arrest was not “Illegal” as police followed rules and procedures required for detaining former Minister.
Fawad was arrested from his residence earlier today after he publicly “Threatened” members of Election Commission of Pakistan in media talk outside Imran Khan’s residence in Zaman Park day ago. LHC ordered authorities to present Fawad before it in response to petition filed by Fawad’s cousin, Nabeel Shehzad, for “Recovery”. In his defence, IG Punjab Usman Anwar said that as mobile signals were “Weak”, he could not contact police party that was transporting PTI leader. Advocate General Punjab Jawad Yaqoob said case has been registered against Fawad at Islamabad’s Kohsar Police Station.

“Islamabad Police came here to arrest him.” Punjab government’s counsel, while pleading his client’s case said that administration had no “Ill intention” and added that his arrest was made in line with law.
“All limits have been crossed. It is clearly mala fide intent case. If court had issued orders, then why did police party leave for Islamabad,” he said. “For merely one speech, he was booked in an FIR. It is being portrayed as he had committed treason,” counsel said.
